2008 Tertini Reserve Noble Riesling

Order

The term "Noble" refers to Botrytis cinerea, or Noble Rot, a naturally occurring fungus which removes water from the grapes, leaving behind a higher percent of solids, such as sugars, fruit acids and minerals. This results in more intense, concentrated characters and flavours.

Tertini Reserve wines only use the finest fruit from the best seasons. If the fruit is not good enough, a Reserve wine is not made. This wine was carefully developed in the winery from a special section of the Riesling block at our "Yaraandoo" vineyard where we encouraged Botrytis to enrich the fruit character prior to picking.

Tasting Notes: The bouquet of honeyed lemon peel and lime has subtle floral overtones, while the lingering palate is intense, with complex flavours of honey, citrus and vanilla balanced with fresh acidity.

Wine Analysis: Alcohol = 12.3 %, pH = 3.17, TA = 7.3g/l, Residual Sugar = 92.5g/l

Vintage Notes: In 2008, the vines recovered well from the frosts and dry conditions of the 2007 vintage with good soil moisture and a frost-free budburst. An even budburst occurred in all varieties. Spring conditions were moderate ensuring excellent flowering and fruit-set. Rain throughout the season ensured good vine growth with very little need for watering. A cold period during December saw the vines slowdown and a later harvest was predicted, however above average temperatures during February and March saw one of the earliest vintages experienced at "Yaraandoo".

This Noble Riesling was harvested on the 11th April at 17.7 Baume, compared to the rest of the Riesling block which was harvested on 13th March at 11.2 Baume.

Fruit Source: 100% Southern Highlands
