Arneis
2009 Tertini Reserve Arneis -
Barrel Fermented
Tertini Reserve wines only use the finest fruit from the best seasons. If the fruit is not good enough, a Reserve wine is not made. This wine was carefully developed in the winery from an exceptional batch of fruit from our "Yaraandoo" vineyard.
Arneis is named 'rascal' or 'little bugger' in its original home in Piedmont, Italy where it almost became extinct due to its temperamental nature. The quite rare variety makes a fragrant and aromatic wine with intriguing and complex flavours.
Tasting Notes: This wine features intense floral, apricot, white peach and some herbal aromas. The acidity is fresh with good textural richness on the palate arising from fermentation in large French oak barrels (puncheons). The wine finishes dry with excellent flavour persistence of stone fruit, pear and almond.
Wine Analysis: Alcohol = 13.5%, pH = 3.38, TA = 5.2g/l, Residual Sugar = 0.54g/l
Vintage & Winemaking Notes: The 2009 vintage started normally with average budburst dates in all varieties. Good growth was experienced early in the season with moderate temperatures and good soil moisture. The weather turned cold at flowering (late November) which resulted in an abnormally long flowering/fruit set period. After Christmas, the warmer weather returned with extremely hot temperatures during late January to early February, which rebalanced ripening and resulted in excellent fruit. The variable weather this season delayed ripening for our Arneis which was harvested a few weeks later than usual on the 10th April at 13.6 Baume.
This wine was fermented in 2nd & 3rd year French oak puncheons where it remained on lees until bottling in December to develop greater complexity and richness of flavour.
Fruit Source: 100% Southern Highlands from our "Yaraandoo" vineyard.
Peak Drinking: Next 3 years
